Cynthia L. Cooper (Cindy) writes plays united by a passion for socially relevant topics, stylized staging and a dramatic-comedic mix. A two-time Jerome Fellow and award-winning playwright, her plays have been seen in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Israel, including: The Women's Project (Strange Bedfellows); Primary Stages (How She Played the Game) also WP Theatre, 100 other venues; Wings (Slow Burn) Bailiwick (Strange Light); New Circle Theatre Company (Heaven Scent); Lincoln Center Clark Studio (Beyond Stone); Town Hall (Louis Braille), also Kennedy Center; Anne Frank Center USA (Silence Not, A Love Story), also Centre Stage-Jerusalem; EST New Works (Words of Choice); also HERE, 20 states); Center for Jewish History (At the Train Station in Munich). Her plays are in 17 volumes and she has won awards from Pen & Brush, Samuel French Play Festival, Malibu Int'l Playwriting Festival, Nantucket Theatre, Foreward, Barn Theatre, White Bear Arts. She is also a journalist, often drawing upon her background as a lawyer, and the author of eight books, including Mockery of Justice, made into a CBS-TV movie. Director Carolyn Levy
Carolyn Levy has directed dozens of works in the Twin Cities, working with Theatre Unbound, Park Square, Pillsbury House Breaking Ice, Penumbra Theatre Summer Institute, the Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company and the Playwrights’ Center. Her area of focus is using theatre for social change. She is a Professor Emerita from Hamline University where she directed and taught acting and directing. At Hamline, she created Making Waves, a Social Justice Theatre Troupe where she worked with students to create, perform and tour interactive theatre pieces about topics such as race, gender, sexualities, hunger and class. She was Artistic Director and co- founder of the Women’s Theatre Project directing new plays by and about women.
